摘要: 采用再生热释光法对来自福建和广东沿海地区的39个老红砂样品进行了测年,其年龄约在0.9~6.8万年之间,表明闽粤沿海的老红砂是晚更新世中、晚期形成的风成沉积。

Abstract: The grain particles of the "old red sand" are mainly quartz grains with diameters larger than 0.1 mm. The ages of the "old red sand" are difficult to be detected directly and usually indirectly determined by 14C dating of the deposits in the relative upper and underlying layers. In recent years, the development of thermoluminescence (TL) dating technique for coarse quartz particles makes it possible to date directly the age of the "old red sand". Based on the research of Wintle et al, TL technique is suitable for dating the age of aeolian deposits. The "old red sand" is aeolian deposits and the ages of it can be detected by TL technique. In recent years 'coarse quartz TL technique' and 'regenerative TL technique' are used to date ages of 39 "old red sand" samples taken from coasts of Guangdong and Fujian. The ages of "old red sand" range from 9 to 68 thousand years denoting that the "old red sand" is aeolian deposits formed in middle and later stages of late Pleistoncene period.

Key words: "old red sand", thermoluminescence dating, Guangdong and Fujian coasts
