Ecological Suitability Assessment of Urban Construction Land in Semi-arid Zone—Taking Hohhot City as a Case Study |

Abstract The analysis of the ecological suitability assessment for un-urban area transferring to urban construction land was not only the major problem of urban ecological planning, but also the foundation and basis of the constitution of general urban planning. Taking Hohhot City as a case study, the analysis of single factor assessment and integrated assessment for the urban construction land have been used to study the comprehensive ecological suitability of un-urban area transferring to urban construction land based on the spatial analysis function of ArcGIS software, confirming the following four comprehensive ecological suitability categories, i.e. suitable, sub-suitable, little unsuitable, and unsuitable land. Findings showed that the suitable land area occupied 39.1% of the total area; the sub-suitable land, 7.3%; little unsuitable land, 25.6%; the unsuitable area, 28.1% for the urban construction land in Hohhot City, respectively. According to the characteristics of different ecological suitability types in different counties (banner or districts), Hohhot urban districts and Tumotezuo banner had higher suitable land area than the others as 39.1% and 28.5% respectively, and Tumotezuo banner and Tuoketuo county had higher un-suitable area than the rest as 45.3% and 53.6% respectively.
