Comparable Analysis of Force Balance Model for the Wind Initiation Threshold of Particles on Sandy Bed

Abstract  The mechanism of the wind initiation threshold of particles is in need of further study. The force balance model for the wind initiation threshold of particles is among the important issues in the wind initiation mechanism. This paper, based on published literatures, discussed the force balance conditions and reviewed typical force balance models for the wind initiation threshold of particles. It is thought that the factors influencing wind initiation of particles are complex and the significance of these factors are inadequately recognized. The existing force balance models provide important references for further study. However, they usually contain some approximations, assumptions and empirical coefficients to be determined in experiments, hence cannot be put into use directly. These models were derived at specific experimental conditions and have limitations in wider extension.
