Influence of Seeding Date on Glyrrhiza uralensis Fisch Surviving through Winter and Growth Characteristic of Root System

Abstract  Abstract: The experimental research illustrated that the proper seeding date of Glyrrhiza uralensis Fisch is much longer than we expected: setting seeds during late April to early August can help it to pass the winter safely. It is noticeable that nearly 100% of seeds could pass the winter safely when setting seeds during late April to middle May; the cold-tolerance of Glyrrhiza uralensis Fisch when seeded during early June to early August decreased, the survival rate was more than 90% except part plants died in winter. The roots and stems of Glyrrhiza uralensis Fisch seeded in different date all grew normally when they passed through the winter; moreover, the later seeded ones grew faster in root length and root size, their photosynthetic products obviously transferred to root system.
