Forest Resources and Its Carbon Stock in Inner Mongolia Sandy Areas |

Abstract On the basis of the sixth continuous forest inventory in Inner Mongolia and the relevant research achievements on carbon fixation by forest in China, the features of forest resources in sandy area in Inner Mongolia have been analyzed, and the change of tree carbon stocks has been calculated. Results show that the total area of forest land is 10.9706 million hm2 in sandy area in Inner Mongolia, and the total area of trees is 3.2382 million hm2. The total stand volume of forest in sandy area is 36.3315 million m3,taking up 2.67 percent of the total volume of forest trees in Inner Mongolia. The total carbon stocks of forest in sandy area in Inner Mongolia is 15.7426 million tons, among them, the total carbon stocks of trees is 10.4472 million tons, that of shrubs is 2.0535 million tons, and that of roots of tree and shrub is 3.2591 million tons, respectively. In Inner Mongolia, the total tree carbon stocks in sandy lands take up 96.19 percent of the total tree carbon stocks in sandy areas, and the total tree carbon stocks in deserts take up 3.81 percent of the total carbon stocks in sandy areas.
