Abstract: The ground-based dual-channel(23.8 GHz 31.65 GHz) microwave radiometer was used to monitor the atmospheric vapour and cloud liquid water amount in the upper Urumqi River Basin in Tianshan Mountains. The result showed that the average atmospheric vapour content in middle Tianshan Mountains during summer sunshine is close to the acknowledged vapour content of Asia;and the atmospheric vapour content in the study area has a distinct diurnal change in sunny day.Cloud liquid water quantity of different precipitation clouds is indicative;various cloud systems have different precipitation threshold. The period when cloud liquid water quantity increases to the threshold from 0.5 mm could be taken as the time suitable for rainmaking.
