The coupled human and natural systems were formed through continuous interaction between human activities and nature composition. Given this, we here studied how the human activities affect the environment in Turpan. Turpan is a special area with extreme climate, little rain, high temperature and strong wind, which induced our team to select in as the study area. During the investigation, we took relevant data of population, economy and ecology to construct 13 evaluation indexes of the population-economy-ecology in the principles of convince and availability from 2001 to 2011 in Turpan area. Then we carried on the quantitative analysis of indicators and calculated the comprehensive evaluation index of the three system, obtaining the coupling degree and the coupling coordination degree index. At last, through analysis, we got developing trend in the coupling degree and the coordination degree of the three big systems in Turpan area from 2001 to 2011, as well as the categories and types of the coupling coordination. And the results showed that the categories of the coupling coordination in Turpan area from 2001 to 2011 was followed by the category of bordering recession, the category of reluctant coupling coordination, the category of primary coupling coordination, the category of intermediate coupling coordination and the category of senior coupling coordination. The types of the coupling coordination in Turpan area from 2001 to 2011 was followed by economical lagged, population lagged and ecological lagged. According to the developing trend, we will provide some suggestions of the sustainable development for Turpan area in the future.
