In this study, gas exchange characteristics and maximum photochemical efficiency of Salix gordejevii were measured with LI-6400 portable photosynthetic system and PAM-2100 portable chlorophyll fluorometer. The results showed that the diurnal courses of photosynthetic rate (Pn) represented a single peak curve on 14 July and 6 August, in contrast, the Pn represented a double peak curve on 6 June. The factors which made the decrease of Pn in June included stomatal factor and non-stomatal factor. In July and August, the decrease of Pn was mainly attributed to the non-stomatal factor. The diurnal course of water use efficiency (WUE) was the same as Pn, which implicated the importance of Pn in its drought resistance. Stomatal conductance (Gs) showed a decrease tendency during the measurement period, evaporation rate (E) represented a single peak curve. Photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) influenceed Pn, E, WUE and temperature (Ta) influence Gs. The diurnal courses of maximum photochemical efficiency of PSⅡ (Fv/Fm) had a single peak curve with the average value of diurnal courses between 0.75~0.85 during the measurement period suggesting a good adaption ability to its growth environment.
