The influence of Artemisia ordosica in different degradation stages on morphology of nebkhas remains unknown. A quantitative survey of diameter, height, angle, slope length, area and volume of A.ordosica nebkhas in different degradation stages was carried at a sand-fixed area revegetated in 1990 in the Tengger Desert. The results showed that height and volume of nebkhas formed by semi-dead A.ordosica ramets were significantly higher than those formed by reproductive and dead ramets. The heights of nebkhas formed by reproductive, semi-dead and dead ramets were 4.8 cm, 21.0 cm and 12.4 cm, and the corresponding volumes were 0.031 m3, 0.159 m3 and 0.109 m3 and the slope angles were 3.5-7.8, 32-36 and 16-26, respectively. Change in individual characteristics and subsequent airflow variation affected on morphology of nebkhas, and A.ordosica in different degradation stages played significant impact on formation and growth of nebkhas. Therefore, the evolutive processes of nebkhas, microtopography formation and surface landscape in arid and semi-arid regions were along with change in A.ordosica morphology.
