The current tourism environmental capacity evaluation technology is difficult to assess the tourism environmental capacity of desert spots. We put forward a desert recreation use management framework (DRUM) to assess the tourism environmental capacity of desert spots. The method has the advantages of tourist use partition, public participation and dynamic evaluation by foreign methods and the advantages of easy evaluation by domestic methods. Taking the Shahu spot in Ningxia as one typical desert tourist area as a case, the preliminary application of the method is discussed. We assess the tourism environmental capacity of different functional areas of the Shahu spot, and analyze influence factors, and put forward management advices to different functional areas.
