Abstract: Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is one of the most ecologically fragile provinces in China. It is very important to construct the ecological civilization construction in Ningxia and the construction processes in such a region has attracted much attention of the public. In this work, we have selected three typical cities of Ningxia as study areas, which correspond to different major function regions, respectively. The key indicators of ecological civilization construction have been built according to the official document titled the opinion of the State Council on accelerating the construction of ecological civilization. Based on these indicators, we have analyzed comprehensively the progress and existing problems of ecological civilization construction in Ningxia since 2012. The results show that the ecological civilization construction in Ningxia has achieved great developments during the period from 2012 to 2015. However the urban expansion in some areas has not been well controlled and the intensity of energy consumption has not declined continuously. The environmental quality in overall region of Ningxia has been improved and the quantitative result concerning the industrial waste disposal implies that there is still room for further improving the environmental quality.
