Abstract: Desertification is global problem in the world today. The definition of the concept and explanation of the substance of "Desertification", which Determined by scientists in various countries, are briefly introduced in the article. On the basis of the real practices in China, the authers discussed the contents of "Desertification" according to the viewpoint of time, space, distribution, origin, landscape and developmental trend and the differentiative index, indicators and the secondary indicators of the "degree of desertification" are presented as well. The discussion on the concept of "desertification" will enable the developmental activities to conform further-ly the objective law and to make sure the practices of rehabilitation and restoration of desertified land to be gradually realized and significant ecological effects and beneficial results to be obviously obtained.
