Abstract: In this paper 12 species of the genus Caragana Fabr.in the sandy area of Shapotou have been studied comparatively.The study includes leaf anatomy and characteristics of water physiology.By the principal components analysis on characteristics of the structures of leaf and water physiology, the order of drought resistance of these species is arranged.The order is C.leucophloea > C.acanthophylla > C.tibetica > C.stenopylla > C.korshinskii > C.opulens > C.hololeuca > C.intermedia > C.microphylla > C.roborovskyi > C.erinacea > C.arborescens.this order will provide a scientific evidence for selection of species in the work of revegetations of drifting sand.
