Abstract: Land desertification is the main ecological problem of northwest inland basin.Through the analysis on the research results made for the problem and causes of land desertification,the causes were thought as the comprehensive operative results of physical factors(vegetation,geology geomorphology,hydrology water resource,soil,climate meteorology) and human factors in this area.Each of physical factors is not only relatively independent unit with its own law,but also has complex feedback correlation with each other.The human activities act on land desertification through changing natural environment.The patterns of human activities change with different physical systems.Thus,the conceptual model of land desertification is built.This model is noted for its perspicuity concept,easy to determine the influence degree of physical and human factors on land desertification and easy to be achieved.Moreover,the realizable quantificational models are discussed.
