Extraction of Dune Crest Lines and Calculation of Dune-field Pattern Parameters on Remote Sensing Image Based on MATLAB Platform

Abstract  

The remote sensing images provide reliable materials for the regional aeolian geomorphology study along with the development of modern science and technology. In recent years, some scientists proposed the pattern analysis method of dune-field parameters on remote sensing images: Firstly, draw the dune crest lines on remote sensing image; Then, measure and calculate the dune-field pattern parameters; Finally, analyze the probability distribution, spatial variation, influencing factors and formation time of dune-field. In the study, we used the image processing algorithm to draw the dune crest lines at a typical transverse dune area in the Tengery Desert on Google Earth images based on MATLAB Platform, then the parameters of dune spacing, defect density, crest orientation and crest length were calculated. The results showed that this method is fast and reliable and provided a new method for dune crest lines extraction.
