Abstract:

Sediment particle size characteristics not only indicate its source and migration mode, but also reveal the regional differences in the depositional environments and the complexity of the formation mechanism. In this paper, the characteristics of eolian and lacustrine sediments are preliminarily distinguished by lognormal-distribution fitting method. Then, in order to establish a discriminant model between aeolian and lacustrine sediments, 218 aeolian and lacustrine sediment samples from the Ulan Buh Desert and the Otindag Sandy Land are used as training samples, and 186 aeolian and lacustrine sediment samples from the same places in different years are used as testing samples. The results show that the model is able to distinguish aeolian and lacustrine sediments with an accuracy of more than 90%. Combined with the method of extracting sedimentary dynamic components, it is possible to identify sedimentary environments other than aeolian and lacustrine. This is of great significance to the preliminary judgment of the provenance of desert sediments, and also is of great reference value to the study of environmental evolution and climate reconstruction.
