Abstract: There are many instruments and methods of measuring the areas of maps,but most of them with lower speed,lower accuracy and more labour.Based on GIS,the measuring way with computer is an effective one which being with satisfied speed,accuracy and labour intensity besides higher co st comparing with traditional film and planimeter methods.The tecnique of measuring maps based on GIS has been discussed mainly in this paper.
