Abstract: The majority of desert highway in Tarim basin passes through the shifting sand areas where wind-sand activities are very violent. So,the establishment of sand barrier systems is very importent.Sand-moving wind velocity and sediment transport strength are the fundmental data in the building of sand barrier systems. This paper, based on the field survey and observation, statistical analysis of sand-moving wind velocity and the numerical calculation of sediment transport strength, pointed out that the more deep to the hinterland, the more northeast by east of sand-moving velocity and the more strong and concentrated of sediment transport.

Key words: Desert highway, Statistics of sand-moving wind velocity, Sediment transport strength
