| Response of Herdsmen’s Behavior to the Policy of Grazing Grassland Fencing: A case in alpine pasture area of Maqu County, Gansu, China |

Abstract We quantitatively analyzed the response of herdsmens behavior to the grazing grassland fencing project in alpine pasture area of Maqu County and the influential factors based on optimal scaling regression model. Results showed that some factors such as herdsmens education level, household income, benefit from the project and personal assessment of pasture degradation exert significant positive effects on herdsmens acceptance to the project, but herdsmens age, family scale and grassland area owned by the family exert significant negative effects. It is suggested that to closely held the relation between the project and herdsmens economic pursuit would contribute to the sustainable improvement of the alpine pasture area in Maqu, so as to let headsmen insist on the grazing grassland fencing project as a self-encouraged behavior in the near future.
