Abstract The study on the fine roots decomposition of Sabina vulgaris and Artemisia ordosica in MU US Sandland was made by the means of a buried bag experiment. The experiment data of two-year showed that during the process of fine roots decomposition of Sabina vulgaris and Artemisia ordosica, C, P, K and Mg were released, and the release rate of S. vulgaris was bigger than A. ordosica; The loss rate of element weight showed a sequence of K>P>C>Mg; There was an accumulation of N during the process of fine roots decomposition of S. vulgaris and a release for A. ordosica; There was an accumulation of Ca during the process of fine roots decomposition of S. vulgaris and A. ordosica, and the accumulation rate of A. ordosica was bigger than S. vulgaris; The energy was released in the process of fine roots decomposition of S. vulgaris and A. ordosica. The study provided a theoretical basis for the energy transformation and flow of the soil pool in sandy area.
