| Status of Water Use and its Eco-environmental Effects in Shiyanghe River Basin |

Abstract The vegetation coverage of water conservation forest in Qilian Mountains is decreasing due to the special physical geography and influence of human activities in Shiyanghe river basin. Because the function of forest conserving water and the shortage of surface water resources, the contradiction between supply and demand of water resources becomes more and more noticeably. Groundwater overdraft has resulted in the environmental deterioration seriously, and it threatened the subsistence and society sustainable development of human being in Shiyanghe river basin. After investigating the present situation of water resources use and its the eco-environmental effects, the authors gave a brief discussion on the problem of water resources and eco-environmental improvement, expecting to seek a possible approach for water resources optimal distribution and solving ecological crisis in the Shiyanghe river basin.
