Abstract Survey on the phenotypes of Salix Psammophila of 7 different areas in Ordos and study on good family breeding of Salix Psammophila were conducted. Six good families have been screened to be tested their salt tolerance. Result indicated that the phenotypes are significantly different in study area. The phenotype is best in Taigemiao area, average branching number and height can come to 4.19 m and 162 separately. Average grow-width is 5.15 m, relationa to others are significant at p=0.05. The phenotypes in Tuke and Chahannao are relatively inferior. Salix psammophila after breeding grow better in Amenqi and Taigemiao, the survive rate of clone seeding can come to 90%; the grow-width and ground diameter are better than clone seeding in other regions. Seeding grow worst in Chahannao area. The screened 6 good phenotype strains all can grow well in middle saline-alkali soil, in which two good strains have high tolerance after comprehensive evaluation with Membership Function. The two strains have been identified as good salt tolerance strains that suitable for popularizing in Northwest China.
