Tree Rings of Saxoul (Haloxylon ammodendron) are not Suitable for the Dendrochronological Studies

Abstract  

Using the cambial pining method in the spring of 2009-2011, this paper want to know whether Haloxylon ammodendron has the distinguishable tree rings. The results show that Haloxylon ammodendron has clear growth zones, which have dark color and high density in the inner side, and light color and lower density with large amounts of tracheas in the out side, this character is very different from the normal tree rings of other tree species. The growth zones are not always close as a whole ring, and the widths of different growth zones in the same disc are normally equal. Meanwhile, Haloxylon ammodendron does not have distinguishable tree rings, and the numbers of the growth zones are different for different regions, individuals and different directions of the disc, so that the Haloxylon ammodendron can not be used for the age's ascertainment and dendrochronological related areas.
