Abstract:

“Mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts” is a core concept in China's ecological civilization thinking in the new era. Promoting integrated protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts is a concrete requirement for“planning development from the perspective of harmony between humans and nature”as well as an important guarantee for improving ecosystem conservation, restoration and sustainable development. Based on related publications from 2014 to 2025 in CNKI and the Web of Science Core Collection (WOS), this study employs bibliometric and visualization methods to analyse the overall structure and evolutionary characteristics of research on “mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts”. Specifically, the analysis covers publication volume and temporal evolution, institutional and author collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence and clustering, as well as burst keywords and thematic evolution. The results show that: (1) The annual number of publications on “mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts” has increased over time, and the development of the field can be divided-according to the publication trend-into three stages: an initial exploration stage(2013-2016),a steady growth stage(2017-2018) and a rapid development stage(2019-2025). (2) The main research forces are concentrated in institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Natural Resources and China University of Geosciences, and the involved disciplines span environmental science, natural resource management, agriculture and forestry. (3) Major research themes include strategic concepts and governance frameworks, territorial spatial and land-use governance, ecological restoration and ecosystem process-function responses, as well as regional assessment methods, indicating a close linkage between “mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts” research and China's ecological civilization agenda. From a bibliometric perspective, this study reveals the knowledge structure and evolution path of “mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, deserts” research and provides empirical evidence for identifying key scientific issues and typical study regions in future work.
