Abstract:

There are residual Aeolian sediments on the shelf in the northern part of South China Sea, and their sand morphology, mineral composition, grain size, quartz grain surface texture features and subbottom profile all have the typical characteristics of eolian deposition. There are a number of sandy coasts developed in the Last Glacial Maximum Holocene in northern South China Sea, and their grain size, sedimentary structures and sedimentary structural features also have obvious characteristics of eolian deposition. Comparison study shows that the landform developments of the both were in same period and in similar pattern, and the distribution of Aeolian sediments had continuity in space from the shelf to the coast. It can be considered that these two Aeolian sediments are developed from approximate deposition causes, besides, belong to spatially continuous deposits in same period.

Key words: continental shelf aeolian residues, coastal palaeo aeolian sediment, times and causes, continuous deposition, the northern South China Sea
