Abstract: In recent years, the runoff inflow into the lower reaches of the Shiyanghe River reduced continually, which resulted in reduce of replenishment of groundwater and the corresponding decline of regional groundwater table.Consequently, a series of eco-environmental problems occur.The Minqin Oasis at the down stream area of the Shiyanghe River Basin is faced with severe ecological crisis;this problem has attracted broad attention of all social circles.In order to restore the degrading eco-environment, a water diversion project-Jingtaichuan Power-pumping Irrigation Project which transported water to Minqin in Gansu province was carried out.It is the first water diversion project of covering long distance in desert.The authors, according to abundant experimental data, have put forward the scheme of road design and construction, which is giving priority to the local material.The practice of constructing and running showed that the scheme is reasonable, the construction is simple, the expenses are low and the efficiency is high.
