Abstract: Naiman Banner lies in southwestern pasrt of Horqin steppe, which is under the jurisdiction of Jirem League, Inner Mongolia. This area has 1.3 million mu of cultivated land, of which desertified farmland ocupies 62.5 per cent, with a wide seeding area but a very low output. It has been investigated that in 1985 the energy imported to the desertified farmland is 11499.6×10⁷ Joule per hundred mu, and that exported from it is 18795.6×10⁷Joule per mu, of which food energy is 10438.0× 10⁷ Joule. Viewed from efficiency of the energy transformation, if one Joule of energy is put into the land, the exported energy of farm produce is 1.63 Joule, of which food energy is 0.91 Joule, the energy transformation is obviously lower than that of the whole country. The desertified farmland in this area may be readjustment as follows: l)The present desertified farmland should be in detarl investigated, classified and estimated in the light of its production potential condition and economic index; 2)The desertified farmland which needs readjustment should be transformed, with the increase of vegetation and intercropping of woods and grass, it can improve the function of the ecological system. 3) To increase the application of organic manure and inorganic fertilizer in the desertified farmland. 4)To set up a multi-level structures of farming . grassland, forest, animal hudsbandry and make them developed synchronously in order to promote the ecological system to be stable and improve the productivity.
