Abstract: Northwestern Shanxi Province is an important part of the loess plateau and the mixed agropastoral region of northern China. Land desertification is a serious problem limiting the social and economic development in the region, Based on the classification of land desertification types, this paper analysed the wind-water dynamics and spatial deistribution of desertification in the region. Then an overall evaluation on the land desertification status was given in accordance with the assemblage features of two types of desertified lands.
