Abstract: The magnetic characteristics of the dustfall samples from Changji and Aksu in Xinjiang were analyzed by environment magnetism method. The results indicate that the main magnetic grain sizes in dustfall samples are multidomain(MD) and pseudo-single domain(PSD) from March to August of 2012, while dustfall samples of Aksu contain more hematite. The content of magnetic mineral in dustfall samples from Changji is much higher than that of Aksu. Samples of Changji are dominated by anthropogenically derived particulate matter with strong magnetic signals, but natural dustfall with low magnetic mineral content is the main component of samples in Aksu. The magnetic characteristics of dustfall samples contain a large amount of environmental information and environmental magnetism is an effective measurement in monitoring dust pollution. Controlling urban air pollution must control the industrial pollutions and plan the industral layout reasonable.
