Abstract:

Desert mosses are typical poikilohydric plants, and can quickly respond to water, restore photosynthetic, respiratory and other physiological activities, and the sensitivity of desert mosses to water is significantly higher than that of vascular plants. Previous studies found that the ecological stoichiometric characteristics of mosses are vulnerable to the influence of microenvironment, and it is not clear whether the ecological stoichiometric characteristics of mosses are affected by the desert precipitation gradient. In order to deeply understand the response characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometric characteristics of desert moss crust to desert annual average precipitation, Syntrichia caninervis was taken as the research object, the contents of N and P elements in the aboveground and underground parts of S. caninervis under three different annual average precipitation were measured, and the stoichiometric characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus elements of S. caninervis under different precipitation gradients were analyzed. The results showed that: (1) the contents of N and P in the aboveground part of S. caninervis were significantly higher than those in the underground part, the coefficient of variation of N and P in the underground part was higher than that in the aboveground part, and the average ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus in the aboveground part of S. caninervis was between 10.17-12.03, which may be limited by nitrogen. (2) With the increase of annual average precipitation, the contents of N and P in the aboveground part of S. caninervis decreased, and the N∶P ratio showed an upward trend. (3) there was a significant positive correlation between the contents of N and P in S. caninervis plants. With the increase of annual precipitation, the N-P relation index of S. caninervis did not change significantly. The results show that S. caninervis in Gurbantunggut Desert have high stability in the distribution of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients, and can maintain their growth by adjusting the stoichiometric characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus in the aboveground and underground parts to adapt to the changes of desert precipitation.
