Abstract: The successional characteristics of vegetation on old-field in Bashang region of Hebei Province were analysed by means of cluster and ordination methods and inferred their temporal sequence from spatial sequence. The results showed that there are 6 associations and 3 sub-associations on the old-field;many factors rather than the single time factor affected the vegetation development;the variation in the number of plant species has a markedly fluctuation;the principle Initial Floristic Composition is not suuitable to the succession of the vegetation in the region;the transformation and utilization of vegetation on old-field should be proceeded after the farmland has been abandoned from 2-6 years.
