Root Distribution and Biomass of Salix gordejevii in Hunshandake Sandland

Abstract  Root distribution and biomass of Salix gordejevii plantation of different years old were observed and calculated. The root system of Salix gordejevii is mainly made up of fine roots and middle roots (diameter<2.0 mm), and fine roots (diameter<0.5 mm) take more than 50% of the total amount. The roots of Salix gordejevii mostly distribute in soil depth of 10~30 cm to absorb the moisture content. The weight of roots decreases with the soil depth. The roots expand horizontally and the horizontal root system develops obviously, and the characteristic presents more obviously with the plant growth.
