Application of MM5/CALMET Numerical Simulation in Wind Energy Resource Assessment of Northern Shaanxi Province |

Abstract A comparative analysis among wind-tower measuring data, MM5/CALMET simulating data, and meteorological station statistics complement data at same period was conducted in northern Shaanxi region. Results show that the MM5/CALMET simulating data fit better with wind-tower measuring data than the meteorological station statistics complement data, and the error is smaller. The wind energy distribution of the study region in 2009 was assessed based on the MM5/CALMET model, and has been corrected by the wind towers data and meteorological station data. The high wind energy region in northern Shaanxi mainly concentrates in regions along the Great Wall and the Baiyu Mountains, and the wind energy resources in parts of this area has potential to be developed.
