Morphological and Anatomical Structure of Leaves on Populus euphratica Oliv. in Qaidam Basin

Abstract  The morphological and anatomical structure of leaves on wild Populus euphratica Oliv. in Qaidam Basin was observed through the conventional paraffin section method. The results show that the leaf of wild Populus euphratica Oliv. in Qaidam Basin presents obvious xeric structure to adapt to drought stress. Leaves of Populus euphratica Oliv. are thick and isobilateral, and the up and down epidermis are made up of two-storey cells, and there are thick outer wall and cuticle on the epidermis. There are sunken stomata, irregular vascular bundle sheath cells, highly developed main vein phloem fiber, much mucous cells, highly developed palisade tissue in the leaves. There are two types of crystals, prismatic crystal and clustered crystal, in the mesophyll cells of the leaves of Populus euphratica Oliv.
