Quantitatively Assessment of Eco environmental Vulnerability in Tropic Coastal Arid Area: A Case Study of Leizhou Peninsula

Abstract  Leizhou Peninsula is in tropic coastal arid area in South China. It is located in a belt of Sea-Land-Air interactions, where the eco-environment is extremely unstable. The paper, using the quantitatively assessment method for eco-environmental vulnerability as a reference, chose the following 10 indices to analyze the regional eco-environmental vulnerability in Leizhou Peninsula: annual rainfall, variance of rainfall, rainstorm frequency from typhoon, cold disaster frequency, vegetation coverage ratio, waste water discharge per unit area, seawater breeding aquatics density, arable land area per capita, GDP per capita, and eco-environmental vulnerability. The result showed that the eco-environmental vulnerability in Leizhou Peninsula decreases from south to north. In detail, Xuwen County in the south belongs to the extremely fragile region, the eco-environmental vulnerability degree is 0.9857; Leizhou City in the mid-south belongs to the severely fragile region, the eco-environmental vulnerability degree is 0.8511; Lianjiang City and Wuchuan City in the north belong to the moderately fragile region, the vulnerable degree is 0.6770 and 0.7679 separately; Zhanjiang Urban Area and Suixi County in the middle belong to the slightly fragile region, the vulnerable degree is 0.3423 and 0.4346 respectively.
