| Model for Town Development in Arid and Semiarid Areas of Western China |

Abstract The paper analyses the present situation of towns development in arid and semiarid areas of western China, which was compared with that of towns in inshore developed towns. For the solution of disadvantage in western towns development a new development model in new epoch is proposed as gradually perfecting towns function and pattern, advancing countryside modernization and promoting cities development. Choice is made for towns development such as Zhangye of Gansu province based on detailed discusses on multiple dimensions development models for towns. Research results can provide thought line for development of towns in arid and semiarid areas.
