Abstract: Research on ecotone, started in the late eighties, shows that modern man-land relation theory of "sustainable development"is deepening philosophically on human environment. The study once laid emphasis on plant ecology develops in ecology, population supporting capacity,natural disaster and desertification now, Instability controlled by contradiction between man and land is its nature, while boundary, fluctuation and matrix are three major types of ecotone.
