Abstract:

Taking 63 prefecture-level cities in the Yellow River Basin as research units, this study constructs a six-dimensional evaluation indicator system for ice and snow sports tourism, encompassing ice and snow experience, sports and leisure, catering and gastronomy, tourism accommodation, shopping consumption, and transportation. By comprehensively utilizing Kernel Density Estimation (KDE), Standard Deviational Ellipse (SDE), and the Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) model, we conduct an in-depth analysis of the spatial differentiation and influencing factors of ice and snow sports tourism in this region. The results indicate that: (1) Ice and snow sports tourism in the Yellow River Basin has broadly entered a stage of rapid development, with its sub-dimensions exhibiting heterogeneous spatial evolutionary logics. Furthermore, three mainstream types have emerged: the core-leading type driven by experience, shopping, and transportation; the momentum-gathering breakthrough type supported by leisure and accommodation; and the culture-embedded type characterized by catering. (2) The kernel density distribution displays a unimodal, left-skewed, and right-tailed pattern. Certain regional core cities have taken the lead in making pioneering breakthroughs, propelling the industrial development pattern to leap from single-point agglomeration to pan-regional networking. (3) Ice and snow sports tourism is undergoing a profound transformation from natural resource dependence to being dual-driven by capital and markets. Global stationary factors (ecological environmental conditions and tourism industry scale) have laid a macro-spatial foundation for the development of the ice and snow tourism industry; whereas local non-stationary factors (sports resources and traffic accessibility) have induced the phenomena of gradient reversal and a geographical paradox at the local scale.

Key words: ice and snow sports tourism, spatial differentiation characteristics, influencing factors, multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR), Yellow River Basin
