The Optimization of Ecological Security Pattern Based on Land Use and Assessment of Schemes in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China

Abstract  The construction of security-based land use pattern is the core of LUCC. How to select effective model and method suitable for the characteristics of regional socio-economic development under different sceneries proves to be a necessity for the land resources management as well as the ecological environment construction. This research seeks to develop a land use ecological security pattern for Ordos, which is a typical farming-pastoral zone with great vulnerability. Based on physical geographical information, socio-economic statistics and multi-year land use data, the Minimum Cumulative Resistance (MCR) model is employed to build the suitability map of curial land use forms with GIS technology. Then the application situation of the two methods, i.e. MCR model and multi-objective programming model based on land ecological suitability are analyzed through landscape indices. And it shows that MCR applies in the situation of maintaining ecological security, beneficial to the abatement of man-made ecological risk; while the latter suits to keep ecological suitability, for the reduction of natural risks. This research extends the application of MCR model and is significant for regional sustainable land use.
