Abstract: Based on wind erosion theories and GIS technologies, this article took Zhundong Opencast Mine Areas as the studied area. This research built a wind erosion hazard degree model with impact factors as follows:the vegetation coverage, land use types, soil erodibility (K), undulating terrains. The wind erosion hazard degree in the studied area was evaluated and analyzed based on the model. The results showed that the area of no hazard was 28.99 km2(0.13%), the slight hazard was 2 100.66 km2(9.42%), the hazard was 5 066.56 km2(22.72%), the severe hazard was 14 593.12 km2(65.44%), and the intense hazard was 646.7km2(2.29%). The erosion hazard degree of the studied area was turned out to be serious with influences of varies factors, and the severe hazard became the main degree. There was an increasing trend of erosion hazard degree from the south to the north with patch distribution, which matched the actual situation.
