Gas Exchange and Drought-resistant Physiological Characteristics of Nitraria billardier Provenances in Ulan Buh Desert

Abstract: In the ulan buh desert, Nitraria tangutorum was used as a control,and three native provenances (named NB1, NB2 and NB3) introduced from Australia of Nitraria billardieri measured photosynthetic rate, light response curve and relative water content, chlorophyll content, soluble sugar content, proline content and relative conductivity. Results showed:(1) The diurnal changes of photosynthetic rate of different provenances showed "double peak" curve, and the photosynthetic "lunch break" phenomenon appeared at 14:00. The "lunch break" was mainly affected by stomatal factors,and the transpiration rate was "single peak" curve.(2) The net photosynthetic rate increased with the increase of light intensity, and the net photosynthetic rate decreased with the increase of saturation point. NB2 has a high light saturation point and a lower light compensation point, indicating that its ability to adapt to light intensity is strong; The dark respiration rate of NB1 was significantly higher than that of NB2, NB3 and N. tangutorum (P<0.05), which indicated that NB1 had strong ability to resist stress. Using the comprehensive evaluation method, the order of using the light energy ability of different provenances was NB2 > NB1 > N. tangutorum > NB3; (3) The contents of chlorophyll, proline and soluble sugar in different provenances were the same as those of NB2, NB3 and N. tangutorum (P<0.05);The content of MDA in NB1 was the highest, which was significantly higher than that of NB2, NB3 and N. tangutorum (P<0.05).(4) According to the membership function method, the drought resistance of different provenances was analyzed. The order of drought resistance of different provenances was NB2 > NB1 > N. tangutorum > NB3.
