Abstract: Sand collector is important to quantitatively monitor aeolian sand activities. In this research, a cyclone type continuous-weigh sand trap was designed. This sand trap was further investigated for farmland environment during a storm in the Kangbao County of the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China. The results showed that the cumulative sediments weights of the cyclone type continuous-weighing sand trap at heights of 15, 30, and 60 cm exponentially decreased with the increase of collecting heights. Significant exponential relationship between the sediment flux and wind speed was observed for the inlet at the height of 15 cm(y=6E-05·e0.8417x, R2=0.6042), but the correlation coefficients between sediment flux and wind speed decreased with the increase of the inlet height. Comparison of the sediments flux measured by the cyclone type continuous-weighing sand trap and that by the new flat opening collector showed that sediments flux of the new flat opening collector were closely related to that of the cyclone type continuous-weighing sand trap's(y=0.8119x+0.2645, R2=0.7481). Although the cyclone type continuous-weighing sand trap requires improvement in stability, it is able to capture the aeolian sand flux below 15 cm at 1min time scale.
