Desertification Monitoring and Its Result in Gansu Province

Abstract  The first widespread desertification surveying in Gansu province was conducted in 1994, and the second in 1999. Monitoring result showed that the whole area of desertification land (including desert and Gobi desert) is about 14×104 hm2, occupying 31.1% of whole area of Gansu province; desertification lands distribute in 24 counties of 8 cities, and the most in 5 cities of Hexi district (occupying 98.% of the desertification land). The average expanding speed per year of desertification land is about 0.38%.
