| Impact of Tourism Development to Land Desertification in Desert Areas: the Case in Hexi Corridor of Gansu |

Abstract The authors takes the Hexi Corridor of Gansu as a case to study the impact of tourism development to land desertification in desert areas. The results showed that the exploitation of tourism resources are restricted by the desert environment in Hexi Corridor, and the most of tourism products locate in oasis where the environment condition is preferable. Calculation on the water consumption by tourists confirms that the direct exacerbation of tourism to desertification is not obvious, but uneven tourism development in subareas of this region brings different policy effect which indirectly influence desertification processes.
