Abstract:

In order to demonstrate the wind regime of yardangs, long term field observations had been carried out to the whale back and long ridge yardang fields in the south-central and northwestern part of Qaidam Basin, respectively. Wind frequency was counted according to the 16 points of compass and corresponding wind speed classes, and the drift potential was calculated according to the method proposed by Fryberger et al. This dataset includes two group files: (1) the wind regime data of whale-back yardang field in the south-central Qaidam Basin (WinReg_WhaleBackYardang_QB); (2) the wind regime data of long-ridge yardang field in the northwestern Qaidam Basin (WinReg_LongRidgeYardang_QB). Each data file contains three worksheets, namely, the original record of wind speed and direction in the observation period, wind frequency and drift potential of each month, season and year. The dataset was archived in .xls data format with the data size of 2.73 MB (in .rar file). This dataset can not only demonstrate the wind energy environment, but also beneficial to propose the development and evolution model of yardangs in the Qaidam Basin.

Key words: Qaidam Basin, yardang, wind regime, drift potential
