Effects of Soil Drought on Trigonelline Content and Capacity of Osmotic Adjustment in Leaves of Two Soybean Varieties |

Abstract Taking two soybean (Glycine max(L.) Merrill) varieties with different drought resistance, Heinong No.38' and Suinong No.14' grown in pots as the test material, this paper studied the changes of trigonelline contents and capacity of osmotic adjustment in leaves under soil drought stress. The results showed that water potential, osmotic potential and pressure potential in leaves of two soybean varieties decreased during soil drought stress, and pressure potential in leaves of Suinong No.14' was higher significantly than that of Heinong No.38' during soil drought stress. The capacity of osmotic adjustment in leaves of two soybean varieties under soil drought stress was enhanced. During 0~8 d drought, trigonelline contents in leaves of two soybean varieties increased rapidly, and proline contents in leaves of two soybean varieties increased slowly; While during 8~16 d drought, trigonelline contents in leaves of two soybean varieties decreased, and praline contents in leaves of two soybean varieties increased rapidly. It was suggested that trigonelline increasing as the osmolyte could improve osmotic adjustment under moderate drought stress, and trigonelline decreasing as the osmolyte weakened the contribution to osmotic adjustment.
