Abstract: In August 1998, the public consciousness on sandy desertification in Horqin sandy land was investigated by questionnaire. The results show: ① 81.6% of the investigated mass have known "sandy desertification"; ② 62.80% think that the sandy desertification in Horqin was mainly caused by human factors; overcultivation, overgrazing and overhacking account for 69.2%; ③ 75.7% of the mass think the local condition of desertification has been improved since 7-8 years ago; 84% think it will be much better 10 years later; ④ the richness of the measures of desert control in Horqin is 5.76 and more measures are needed; ⑤ the nation, the local government, the collective and the individual are expected to hold their responsibility at the proportion of 15:18:10:12; 77.9% of the mass consider the local government value at desert cotrol at the mean of 7.4; 94.2% volunteer to labour for desert control and 70.8% to build bio gas or use other alternative energy to prevent hacking; ⑥ the satisfication degreee to local life in Horqin is 6.73. They consider that the significant degree of controlling desert, developing economics, improving education, bettering medical treatment and developing social guarantee system is respectively 9.04, 9.05, 8.78, 7.78 and 7.73.
