Abstract: Desertification is the process of land degradation in arid,semi arid and sub humid areas due to adverse climate and human activities.It is always accompanied with the processes of structure destruction,function degradation,and species loss of ecosystems.All the ecological principles engaged in the processes are also the basic principles of landscape ecology.Landscape ecology focuses on the characteristics of structure,function,changes of landscape as well as landscape planning.Landscape ecology includes the following principles:structure and function,biodiversity,material cycling,nutrient redistribution,energy flow,landscape change and landscape stability.The process of desertification actually includes the processes of structure destruction,function degradation and the abnormalization of changes due to adverse natural factors and human activities,so that landscape ecological principles play an important role in desertification research.The possibility of the application of landscape ecological principles in desertification research was discussed in this article.
