Abstract:

Alluvial gobi is widely distributed along the Jiuquan-Ejin Banner Railway, so sand source is rich, and the damage of wind-blown sand is serious. To achieve accurate prevention and control of the damage of wind-blown sand to railway, this study monitored and studied the aeolian environment along the Jiuquan-Dongfeng section of Jiuquan-Ejin Banner Railway. The results show that the railway subgrade was dominated by wind-blown sand over gobi, and the sand driving winds were mainly of NW, W, NNW and WNW. Meanwhile, there were also easterly sand driving winds (ENE, E and NE), and the annual frequency of sand driving winds ranged from 5.58% to 18.44%. The study area belonged to a low wind energy environment with a medium wind condition, and sand drift potential ranged from 31.4VU to 176.2VU, which increased from Jinta to Ejin Banner. The sand drift potential was mainly concentrated in spring. During the observation period of a wind season from August 2021 to May 2022, the sand transport quantity along the railway ranged from 1.3 m3·m-1 to 3.5 m3·m-1, of which the main harmful wind (westerly wind) ranged from 0.9 m3·m-1 to 2.4 m3·m-1, and the sand transport quantity of the secondary harmful wind (easterly wind) ranged from 0.5 m3·m-1 to 1.5 m3·m-1. This study provides a scientific basis for the design of sand control system in the Jiuquan-Dongfeng section of the Jiuquan-Ejin Banner Railway.
