Desert Landscape Change and Regulation Mechanism in Middle and Lower Reaches of Shiyang River, Gansu Province

Abstract  Based on TM images of middle and lower reaches of Shiyang River in 1987, 1994, 1998 and 2005, this paper analyzed the changes of desertification landscape. The results showed that the area of desertification tended to decrease, the ratio of serious desertification land decreased, and new abandoned cultivated land increased; plant species vanished seriously in Baqu area, and the increase was more than decrease in Quanshan area. Lastly, this paper proposed some comprehensive measures for regulating and saving water against contradictions in water use in Shiyang river basin.
